Construction progress
Construction is underway! Here are some pictures.
This is what it looked like before construction began. We had a bathroom in the middle of our kicthen.
They had the bathroom removed the first day!
All open, but with pipes running through the middle of the room.
Ceilings painted white
Recessed lights in the front
And kitchen lights
And some display lights.
Cabinets delivered!
Closed up all the holes. Pipes concealed. Apparently the HVAC was in bad shape, and it was repaired.
Stairway and upstairs halls painted.
Master painted.
Bathroom is finished.
They setup the island just to see what it will look like.
Kitchen ceiling all finished and painted. The kitchen will look something like this.
Master bedroom is finished. I setup my office furniture and computers. Unfortunately, this means I no longer have an excuse for not working on my book.
And while I was posting this blog, there was….an occurrence. I believe there was a miniature “running of the bulls” right here on School Street, and the bulls chased this hoard of about 20 “Spaniards” into Higgins’ Tavern. I wasn’t fast enough with my camera to capture it, but I did get this shot, and I’ll leave it to you to write an appropriate caption…. (“So these two bulls go into a bar….”)
New (real) hardwood floors in the kitchen.
Here’s a close-up of the seam. You can see one area where he sanded the varnish off of the old floor, and it matches pretty good, but not exactly. The installer said that when the old is sanded and then both are varnished, you will be able to see the seam if you are looking for it, but you wouldn’t notice it if it wasn’t pointed out to you.
Floor is finished. The seam is very subtle, and you don’t notice it unless you are looking for it.
Chocolate Pudding
Who can resist a sleeping baby?
Elliot ate some ribs, drank his first Coke, and played with his dad at RibFest.
Licking his lips…mmmm! Ribs are good!
Sous chef in training
He took the oven knob off the oven and found another purpose for it…
… after I carefully put child safety knobs on them. Oh well!
It was a good visit when Nana and Papa came to see us!
If you wonder why there are so many pictures and videos of Elliot in his high chair, there are a few reasons for it. The main one is that he is a captive target. Another reason is that he likes to grab the camera and it is out of his reach. But the best reason is that he’s just so funny when he makes a big mess and gets food all over himself! That’s comedy, people.
Catching Up!
We haven’t posted in awhile as we’ve been a wee bit busy moving, having guests, and rearing a child. But never fear! A new post is here! With a bunch of randomness and some pictures of our new place. Scroll all the way down for a couple of adorable Elliot videos.
Two scholars:
He doesn’t normally sleep with a pacifier. But he looked like such an angel!
As you all know, we have moved! So I’m posting some pictures we took awhile ago because we haven’t found time to take any new pictures. The house looks pretty much the same as it did in these pictures… except that you really can walk around in it now. We have tucked all the excess boxes away… and I FINALLY found my pots, pans, and lids! After a month of using my dutch oven for everything pot-related, I found them in a box at the back of Fletch’s closet, behind a bookshelf. Don’t ask how the box got there. 🙂 Here is our lovely garage space (just the spot below the bike that’s hanging from the ceiling). I don’t know it in the picture but it’s going to take a 52-point turn to back my car into that tight squeeze.
Here is our kitchen. The wall to the left is the bathroom that’s right there in the kitchen. Don’t you wish your bathroom was that close to your food!
Here’s the front on a very overcast day. Ours is the one with the sign out front.
We have a basement! There is a finished part, which you can see through the open door. It’s quite large. And the unfinished part is where the washer/dryer are now. We’re going to build a new bathroom in that spot… after it’s torn out of the kitchen.
Here is our living room. Lovely!
Here’s the landing between Elliot’s and our room. Oh no! He’s about to fall down the stairs! Never fear… the boy has learned to descend the stairs!
Here’s the dining room and you can see the kitchen and bathroom (in the kitchen) just on the other side. The bathroom is on the other side of the black shelves.
We never did get that box spring up the stairs.
I thought I’d show a video of Elliot going down the stairs. I happen to think it’s an advanced skill for a 13 (at the time) month old. All you have to do is point your toe and throw a toy down the stairs… and you’re golden!
Here’s a video of Elliot eating. But if you look closely you can see that he’s answering me when I ask him what a lion says. I didn’t realize it at the time but when I reviewed the video again and saw the goldmine I had, I had to share! Also, he demonstrates his new favorite word: uh-oh! Other words he can say are apple, strawberry, ball, e-i-e-i, and I *swear* that tonight when he was in the bathtub and we were counting from 1 to 10 he said “eight.”
First Steps!
There are no words… 🙂
Happy Easter!
Baby Steps
This is one of those “wish I’d had my camera sooner” moments. Here are the first forward-moving steps!
Happy First Birthday, Elliot!
What an incredible first year! Elliot is now saying mama and da-dee. He loves to read books with mom and work the calculator with dad. He knows how to get out all the pots, pans, and tupperware. He has flown on airplanes and can finally ride in the car without throwing up. He already knows how to pick the broccoli out of his food and he can tell you exactly which yogurt container is going home with him from the grocery store. His infectious laugh keeps the hugs and kisses coming. And we suspect that he will have hair by his second birthday. This blog is dedicated to all those who have been a part of Elliot’s first year. We couldn’t have done it without you!
Elliot likes to watch the fish swim at the zoo.
He likes to play with his toys inside the toy container. He carefully doles out the ones he’s already played with.
Elliot loves the shoes he got for his birthday! They are going to help him learn to walk!
Dad teaches Elliot about planes at the Museum of Science and Industry. Elliot teaches Dad about the “sideways hat” look.
Papa Lloyd sits with another grandchild.
Peeking through the jumpolene door.
Georgia coaches on the finer points of sippy cup usage.
Cheerios are the new beauty mark.
One little monkey jumping on the bed
Elliot loves to flip and tumble on the bed!
Here are three little imps having a play date in the bathroom. Elliot is a ladies man!
New skill: turning the tv on and off.
What can be more angelic than this little face?
He is head and shoulders above the rest! Happy retirement, Lloyd!
Here is a diaper wreath that A’me made for a friend. So creative!
Here’s the filming notice taped to our door to let us know not to park on our own street because somebody was filming a movie. We parked two blocks away and waited and watched but no filming took place.
Incisors
Elliot has two new teeth, for a grand total of six!
